Functioning
The Art was made up of a series of signs and graphic devices by means of which Llull expressed its components and their combinations. The main ones were the Alphabet, the Figures and, in the ternary phase, the Table. The Alphabet assigned concepts to the letters of the Latin alphabet, twenty-three in the quaternary Art, and nine in the ternary. The Figures showed the groupings and internal relations among the different sets of concepts. The Tabledisplayed all the possible ternary combinations of the concepts of the first two figures of the ternary Art.
